With face-to-face meetings all but impossible at the moment, we are more often turning to the phone for information and advice during the corona crisis. There are a range of helplines for people living with dementia and their carers. Here are few that you may want to keep a note of. 

The National Dementia Helpline: 0300 222 11 22 

This is run by The Alzheimers Society and offers information and advice about dementia. 

Admiral Nurses: 0800 888 6678 

These specialist nurses are employed by Dementia UK, a national charity that aims to improve the quality of life for people with dementia. You can call for advice on all aspects of dementia care. 

Alzheimers Research UK 0300 111 5 111 

This charity carries out dementia research but also answers questions about dementia and dementia research, including how you and your family and friends can get involved. Its infoline can provide help and guidance. 

Age UK: 0800 055 6112 

A free national helpline is run by this well-known charity. It offers advice on a range of topics, including advance care planning, benefits and choosing a care home, as well as information on local activities and services for those with dementia.

Local help  

There are many local organisations that are offering telephone support through lockdown, here is a selection; 

Greenwich MindCare Dementia Information and Support Service: 0203 198 2222 

This new service launched April 1 2020. It provides dementia advice, information and support for people with a dementia diagnosis and their carers, who are based in the local area. 

Alzheimer Scotland: 0808 808 3000 

This 24-hour hotline provides information, signposting and emotional support to people with the illness, their families, friends and professionals. 

Alzheimers Society (Welsh Speaking): 03300 947 400 

Dementia advisers will listen and give you the support and advice you need, including coronavirus advice, connecting you to help you need. 

Living Well With Dementia in Warwickshire 01926 410 410 

Support for those living with dementia, or those supporting them.  

Action for Carers Surrey: 0303 040 1234 

Help and support for those caring for someone with dementia. There are new video events and coronavirus updates too.

8pm-midnight, 7 days a week.
