The Mind Diet for Beginners is a recipe book filled with inspiring yet easy-to-make dishes that use the MIND diet as their guide. In case this is new to you, the MIND diet (which stands for Mediterranean-DASH Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay) is a brain-building way to eat that claims to treat hypertension, support brain health, and reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. There are several long-term trials under way to measure the exact effects of the diet on brain health, but early results are promising.

There has been a slew of MIND-related books over recent years, but this recent publication is definitely a good one to start with as it features easy recipes and a five-step plan to help incorporate the way of eating into your life easily. This includes kitchen organisation tips and a meal planner to find your way round the different recipes.

The food itself will be familiar; essentially it is a Meditteranean diet with more whole grains thrown in – so olive oil, fish, fresh vegetables, fruit, nuts and lots of leafy greens. Don’t worry if that sounds too treatless though, as you can still drink a little wine! The menus are realistic and the book is easy to dip in and out of – why not pick a recipe and add it into your weekly rota? Recipes include Spinach and Sweet Potato Fritatta, Greek Turkey Burgers and Blueberry-Peach Crisp.
